Authorities called Lynnfield Animal Control after a dog was reportedly set on fire on Curwin Circle on Saturday, Sept. 4, CBS Boston reported. Neighbors found the animal on fire in a wooded area around 12:30 p.m.
The dog's owner lived at a nearby housing complex, CBS reported.
The animal was dead by the time help arrived.
Police told the news station they were investigating children between 9 and 11 years old. Kids younger than 12 cannot be charged with a crime in Massachusetts, CBS said.
This is the second time in a week someone burned a dog. Authorities found a 1-year-old puppy named Annie on the side of Route 1 in Norwood with severe burns to 20 percent of its body. Officials expect Annie to recover but with significant scars. It's unclear if police have made any arrests in that case.
